We all want to look our best but what do you do when you look down and see your shirt is a wrinkled mess? What if you are on the go and don’t have a trusty iron around to get those wrinkles out? Even better, what if you don’t own an iron? There has to be a way to get rid of wrinkles!
There is a surprising amount of ways to get wrinkles out of your clothes with other household items besides an iron – I am talking about flat irons, teapots, towels and more.
Have I piqued your interest? Here are some helpful tips on how to get wrinkles out of your clothes.
Wrinkle Prevention
The best way to get rid of wrinkles is to prevent them in the first place. As soon as you remove clothes from the dryer, immediately hang them; don’t leave them in a pile or let them get cold and wrinkly.
Using Beauty Products for Wrinkles
Who knew that a flat iron or a blow dryer could get rid of wrinkles? For the flat iron, use it quickly to get rid of small wrinkles. Pull the wrinkled garment tight and run the straightener over the wrinkles a few times. Be sure to clean the flat iron before you use it.
For the blow dyer, hold it about two inches away from the clothing and use short blasts of hot air to work out the wrinkles. Run your hands over the wrinkles while using the blow dryer to smooth it out more.
With either option, be mindful of the heat so the clothing doesn’t get burned; use the low heat for silk and high heat for cotton.
Steam
There are a couple of ways to steam the wrinkles out of clothes. The first is with the shower. Close the windows and doors in your bathroom and hang the wrinkled item from the shower road while you blast hot water; make sure you don’t get the clothing item wet. Save time by taking a shower while it steams. This tip is best for people who are traveling.
You can also steam with a teapot. Boil the water in the teapot and hold the steaming kettle’s spot about a foot away from the wrinkles.
The Dryer
You can also create steam in your dryer if you have the time. One way is with some ice cubes. If you don’t have ice cubes, use a damp sock for a smaller, thinner piece of wrinkled clothing or a damp towel for bigger, thicker material. A damp dryer sheet works as well.
Throw your damp option into the dryer with the wrinkled clothing and run it on medium for about 15 minutes. The heat from the dryer will react with the water and create steam. Lightly mist the wrinkled spot before putting it in the dryer.
Miscellaneous Options for Wrinkles
Speaking of damp towels, if you put your wrinkled clothing under a damp towel and gently press down and smooth out the wrinkles with your hands, you should be good. Hang it to air dry after.
Another idea is to use a wrinkle remover. To make your own, fill a spray bottle with cold water and a capful of liquid fabric softener. Hang the clothing item and mist it. The wrinkles should go away but smooth it out with your hands for a faster outcome. If you don’t have fabric softener, combine one part vinegar and three parts water into the spray bottle.
Go to your kitchen and find a small metal pot that you normally use to cook noodles in. Make sure the underside of the pot is clean. Boil some water and then dump it. Immediately use the bottom side as a makeshift iron. Be sure you don’t burn yourself or the clothing. If the clothing is thin, place a towel between the pot and the clothing. Don’t put the pot on vinyl or plastic embellishments to avoid melting.
For when you can’t apply heat or steam the wrinkles out, try rolling. Roll the wrinkled clothing as tight as you can into a burrito. Place it under a mattress or something heavy for about an hour. Unroll it, and the wrinkles should be gone.
